This Orb is all about Arizona Self Defense laws. It consists of resources and materials for those who wish to have quick access to useful information related to self defense, particularly geared around Arizona law.

Why Self Defense? Why not just let the police handle it?

Police exist solely to uphold the law, not to be an individual’s guards. Numerous court decisions have absolved police from any liability for failure to protect individuals. And even with the best intentions, police officers are too few to be everywhere they are needed at once. As a popular saying goes: "When seconds count, the police are only minutes away."

Protection of persons is the job of bodyguards. However, most of us cannot afford to have our own personal bodyguards. Considering that most people have learned to be their own chauffeurs, chefs and accountants, why is it such a stretch to expect to also be your own personal protection?

"I don't even call it violence when it's in self defense; I call it intelligence."
- Malcolm X

I really hate to ask about *ARS 13-404 ARS 13-405 ARS 13-421*

The way I read them, if faced with a situation while inside your vehicle where you are unable to escape a threat (other guy blocks you in, etc.) even when he threatens you with physical instead of lethal weapons, you can shoot him. Age plays a role, the older you are it seems the better off you are in being able to prove that your life was in danger.

How far off base am I?

My father shot a man, after a verbal arrgument turned to physical violence, when two men decided to follow my father down the side walk, when they were too close he turned, and was assulted. My father then drew his firearm, and the attacker took another step toward my father. Now within three feet of the two men. He made a split second decision he shoot this man, and killed him. Our family is very worried about the case, we really do not know Arizona self defence laws. If anyone can offer some info. this would be great! Thanks
